Our Aim and History

Bangladesh Hindu Association (UK) started 20 years ago as an umbrella organization and a common ground for the members of Bengali Hindu Community as a whole originally from Bangladesh. The principle of the unity was based on identity of origin and culture in Bangladesh regardless of differences in opinion and current nationality status for the migration in various countries in the world.

Very first activity and protest started as Victim Support and Welfare Group of Sanatan Association for the purpose of protesting against the atrocities on innocent Hindus in Bangladesh. SANATON Association's registered status required to submit petition to the Prime Minister at Downing Street. We then invited members, organisations of Bengali Hindu the community from every city, all over United Kingdom and the National Committee of Bangladesh Hindu Association (UK) was formed on Sunday, 31 August 2003 at Toynbee Hall, 28 Commercial Street, London E1 6LS. This is now widely known as BHA (UK). A chronological Information listed below with references of date and action. 

  • 6/12/2001 - Campaign started to join Victim Support Welfare Group of Sanatan Association to protest against atrocities on minority Hindus in Bangladesh.
  • 31-12-2001- Petition submitted to the Prime Minister Tony Blair MP at Downing Street, London SW1
  • 3-1-2002 Acknowledgement received from Prime Minister's Office
  • 14-1-2002-Invitation sent to members calling to form a Probashi Bangladeshi Hindu Organisation
  • 21-01-2002 First meeting held at 320 Barking Road, London E13 on 21 January 2002. Members Present: Fk Dhar, Proshanta Purokayastha, Subodh Ranjan Sen, Himangshu Goswami, D K Ray, Jadob Majumder, Raneshwar Ray, Mukul Roy, Chiranjit Majumder, Samir Kumar Das, Bidhan Goswami, Sujit Sen, Biswajit Goswami, BB Goswami (Document Attached).
  • Extra Ordinary General meeting on of August resolved the date of National Meeting on Sunday, 31 August 2003
  • National Committee Meeting held on 31 August 2003 at Toynbee Hall, 28 Commercial Street London E1 6LS on at 10am to 5:30pm under the heading of Bangladesh
